PDF stands for Portable Document Format.
Portable - Portable means PDF files can be viewed at any of the desktop. PDF files look similar on any of the Operating Systems used( Windows XP, Windows VISTA, LINUX etc.).
Document - Document is the file created with a Word Processor.
Format - Format is the way in which you can represent your Files or Documents.
PDF is the combination of Portable, Document and Format. PDF is the file format which is used for documents exchange independent of operating System. PDF is created by Adobe Systems in 1993.
With the use of PDF you can easily represent two dimensional Documents. PDF preserves the formatting, images, graphics, text and font of the Original Document.
Or you can say that PDF is the Electronic Snapshot of Original Document.
